CLL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS
The Denson Endowed Scholarship – $1000-$2000
Established in 2012, the Denson Endowed Scholarship is a permanent endowment dedicated to the legacy of the late John D. Denson. He and his wife Margaret wanted to provide scholarship support for undergraduate students. Recipients will be identified as first-generation students and are involved with the First Gen Equity program in the Center for Leadership and Learning, or similar future programs designed to help first-generation students excel and complete their studies recipients must exhibit financial need.
The Selden Leavell Endowed Scholarship – $1000-$1,500
The Selden Leavell Endowed Scholarship was established by the Board of Regents of the University Texas System on October 8, 1981, for the benefit of the Vice President for Student Affairs. Gift funds were provided by the Ruth Hall Leavell Estate. The endowment honors Mr. E. Selden Leavell of Houston, Texas, a 1903 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin School of Law. The Division of Campus and Community Engagement was named as the custodian of this endowment in Spring 2010. Recipients are chosen on the basis of proven academic achievement and financial need. This award is not limited to any school, college, or department.
Ge Chen Study Abroad Endowed Scholarship – $1000
Established in 2013, the Ge Chen Study Abroad Endowed Scholarship is a permanent endowment that is dedicated to the legacy of Dr. Chen who co-created the first study abroad program in the Center for Leadership and Learning (formerly the Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence) within the Division of Campus and Community Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin. This scholarship is dedicated to supporting CLL students participating in the Beijing, China study abroad program. To become eligible for this scholarship, a student must be accepted to study abroad in Beijing, China; demonstrate financial need; and/or be a first-generation college student. All candidates are required to submit a one-page essay in response to a specific prompt on social entrepreneurship.
Tod F. and Tracy E. Hammond Gateway Scholars Endowed Scholarship – $1000
Established in 2014, the Tod F. and Tracy E. Hammond Endowed Scholarship is a permanent endowment dedicated to The Gateway Scholars Program (or successor program) in Center for Leadership and Learning within the Division of Campus and Community Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin. All First Gen Scholars in good standing are encouraged to apply. Special consideration will be given to students who are actively engaged in First Gen Equity and other CLL programs.
Garfield and Petrenella McConnico Endowed Scholarship – $1500
Established in 2015, the Garfield and Petrenella McConnico Endowed Scholarship is a permanent endowment dedicated in memory of the parents of Mr. Byron Anderson, an Advisory Board Member in the Division of Campus and Community Engagement. It is available to students in the Center for Leadership and Learning within the Division of Campus and Community Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin. Students who demonstrate a solid commitment to belonging and community engagement and have a verified G.P.A. of 2.5 or higher are eligible and encouraged to apply.
Joylynn Reed Hailey Endowment – $1000-$2000
The Joy Lynn Hailey Reed Endowment was established on September 1, 2015, to benefit the Intellectual Entrepreneurship Consortium within the Division of Campus and Community Engagement. Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide awards to graduate students participating as mentors in the various programs and partnership programs of the Division of Campus and Community Engagement. A minimum of one student will be awarded annually, with a maximum number of students being awarded annually in accordance with funding available from endowment earnings.
Drs. Aileen and Walter Bumphus Endowed Excellence Fund – $1000
Established in 2021, funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide support for first-generation, low-income college students participating in the Center for Leadership and Learning (“CLL”), who wish to study abroad. Types of support may include, but are not limited to, immunizations, program and passport fees, other various costs associated with traveling and study abroad scholarships.
Darren Walker Scholars Endowed Scholarship – $20,000 per year, up to 4 years
Established in 2021, funds distributed from the endowment shall provide scholarship support to students with financial need participating in the Darren Walker Scholars Program who are eligible for support from the Texas Advance Commitment. This scholarship is restricted to incoming freshmen. See Darren Walker site for more information.
Ali and Nahad Khataw Global Leadership Endowed Excellence Fund – $1000
Established in 2022, funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide support for students with demonstrated financial need who wish to study abroad through the Global Leadership and Social Impact program(“GLSI”). Types of support may include, but are not limited to, immunizations, program and passport fees, and other various costs associated with international travel and study abroad scholarships.
Charles Lu Global Excellence Fund – $1000
Established in 2023, funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide support for students with demonstrated financial need who wish to study abroad through the Global Leadership and Social Impact (“GLSI”) program. First preference will be given to students who are the first in their family to attend college. Types of support may include, but are not limited to, immunizations, program and passport fees, and other various costs associated with international travel and study abroad scholarships.
Renee and Delio Ortegon Endowed Excellence Fund – $500-$1000
Established in 2023, funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide support for students in the First Gen Equity program that endeavors to provide financial support and activities that promote leadership skills and academic success for students with demonstrated financial need.
Algetha Warfield Quander Scholarship – $1000
Established in 2018, funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide scholarship support to liberal arts students who are also enrolled in the First Gen Equity program (or its closest successor program) in the Division of Campus and Community Engagement.
