Malik serves as the Director for the Heman Sweatt Center in the Center for Leadership and Learning. He first arrived at UT-Austin in 2003 as a supervisor for Jester West Residence Hall, and later supervised Jester East Hall working with students and student athletes. He was the first academic advisor for the new African and African Diaspora Studies Department in the College of Liberal Arts. He also served as a mentor to the Longhorn football team. As the Senior Academic Advisor in UGS, he helped launch an Academic Success Program, Discovery Scholars, that helps undeclared UT-Austin students navigate the campus and to find their college and major. He received his Master of Science degree from Abilene Christian University in Human Development. Malik is married to Sharon Crowder, a teacher in the Austin Independent School District.
