Project MALES will host our second plática of Spring 2024 on Monday, March 4th, from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. CDT in room 2.222 of the George I. Sánchez Building (SZB). We have the honor to be joined by Malik Crowder, who will discuss navigating challenging internships, developing leadership and global skills, and researching with faculty at the University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin) while exploring resources at the university.
Malik is the Director of the Heman Sweatt Center in the Center for Leadership and Learning. He first arrived at UT-Austin in 2003 as a supervisor for Jester West Residence Hall and later supervised Jester East Hall working with students and student-athletes. He was the first academic advisor for the new African and African Diaspora
Studies Department in the College of Liberal Arts. He also served as a mentor to the Longhorn football team. As the Senior Academic Advisor at UGS, he helped launch an Academic Success Program, Discovery Scholars, that helps undeclared UT-Austin students navigate the campus and find their college and major. He received his Master of Science in Human Development from Abilene Christian University. Malik is married to Sharon Crowder, an Austin Independent School District teacher.
Pláticas are held monthly during the academic year and highlight faculty and community leaders whose work centers and/or impacts boys and young men of color through research and practice.
Food will be provided from 5:00 – 5:30 P.M. CDT. We invite all UT students, faculty, staff, and community members to join us.
