Flor De la Mora is the first college adviser from the UT Austin chapter of the Advise TX College Advising Corps (CAC) to serve as a Research and Evaluation Fellow for the national CAC.

The Del Valle High School-based adviser was chosen from a large pool of applicants from 26 programs in 16 states to complete the year-long evaluation project. She is one of 24 selected fellows for the 2018-19 academic year who will promote a data-driven culture among advisers in their respective chapters.

The fellows will also participate in a series of professional development sessions designed to enhance their research skills and prepare them for life after serving in the corps.

Among De la Mora’s many achievements, she is a former Dell Scholar and a first-generation college graduate from the McCombs School of Business (BBA, Management Information Systems ’18).  In addition to her advising duties, she serves as the social media coordinator for the UT Austin Advise TX chapter. This past December, she was a member of the Social Media Team for the CAC Forum West Conference held in Los Angeles, Calif.

About Advise TX: Housed within the Longhorn Center for School Partnerships, the UT Austin chapter of the Advise TX College Advising Corps is part of the national College Advising Corps, an ever growing consortium of more than 25 partner institutions around the country that have committed to recruit and train talented, enthusiastic recent college graduates to serve as college advisers within designated high schools in 16 states.

Through this nationwide consortium of colleges and universities, the program cdaims to increase the number of low-income, first-generation and underrepresented students entering and completing higher education. By placing recent graduates of partner institutions as college advisers in underserved high schools and community colleges, the programs work in communities across the country to provide the advising and encouragement that students need to navigate college admissions.

Advisers work full-time to help students plan their college searches, complete admissions and financial aid applications and enroll at schools that will serve them well.

The University of Texas at Austin Chapter manages 21 college advisers who serve in selected high schools within 12 school districts in Central Texas, Houston, Dallas, El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley.  These advisers serve in their high schools for a maximum of two years.
